Why is Mentorship Important?

More than half of middle and high school students in the U.S. have no clue what they want to be in the future and no plan to get there. Predominantly in low-income families, students are left to decide a career on their own with no guidance. They avoid engineering and science because of fear that these fields are too difficult, and because they lack peers and adults who can help them.

myMentorTree’s mentorship program is a non-profit service provided to high school and middle school students which allows them to interact with college-level science students and Silicon Valley engineers. Our mentors act as personal guides and role models for students; they provide a peek into what careers in science and technology look like and then help students set educational goals.
